Will Farmer

Will Farmer, Director of Fieldings Auctioneers, specializes in 20th Century decorative arts covering ceramics, glass and furniture. He studied at Birmingham School of Jewellery undertaking a combined BA Hons in silversmithing and Fine Art history. Notable finds include a Martin Brothers Stoneware bird selling for £20,500 and a rare collection of documents relating to the Stourbridge Glass Industry selling locally for over £22,000. Will has featured as expert on the BBC’s 20th Century Roadshow and is now in his fourth season as an expert with the Antiques Roadshow.

Jeremy Hunt

Jeremy Hunt: publisher, editor, writer and conference organizer providing information and communications on the visual arts and art in public spaces. Since 1983 as independent commissions agent, curator and private gallery owner.  Editor of the Art & Architecture Journal since 2001.  Studied History of Art at Essex University, 1976-79 and Goldsmiths College, 1980-8.  Writes for various publications on art, photography, and architecture.

Deirdre Figueiredo

Deirdre Figueiredo is Director of Craftspace, a crafts development organisation working to increase opportunities for makers, as well as access to and participation in contemporary crafts for all audiences.  Since 1986 Craftspace has been working in partnership with makers and artists, audiences, venues and a diverse range of organisations to push boundaries and perceptions around contemporary crafts practice, touring exhibitions and audience development. Craftspace aims to initiate programmes of work which stimulate artistic excellence, critical thinking and understanding of contemporary crafts in the widest social and cultural contexts.

As Director of Craftspace Deirdre has been involved as a selector for the Crafts Council’s Chelsea Craft Fair and the first Origin in 2006.  She has also judged the Nottingham and Leamington Open exhibitions and has been a selector for the Arts & Business Virtual programme.

Deirdre has worked in the fields of Visual Arts, Cultural Diversity and Museums since 1988, initially at Cartwright Hall in Bradford and then Nottingham Castle Museum. She was Cultural Development Officer for Leicestershire Museums Service curating the South Asian collections and developing innovative outreach programmes, community projects and exhibitions to promote diverse cultures.

Over the past 16 years she has contributed to various advisory panels and committees including the Museums Association Equal Opportunities panel, Arts Council England’s Capital Lottery panel and Cultural Diversity Advisory Panel, a Crafts Advisor for West Midlands Arts, a member of the Advisory panel for the HUB Centre for crafts, design and making in Sleaford, Lead Advisor for Diversity at Arts Council England and a member of the Decibel Programme Board. She is currently a Council Member of Arts Council England West Midlands region and a board member of Audiences Central. She is also a member of the Creative and Cultural Skills Crafts Advisory Panel and is currently involved in steering, formation and running of a Crafts network as part of the national Cultural Leadership Programme.

Kim Mawhinney

Kim Mawhinney is Curator of Applied Art at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. She has been at the Ulster Museum for 13 years with responsibility for the glass, ceramic and furniture collections. The Ulster Museum has the finest collection of international contemporary glass outside London. Kim is a member of the Project Board for the redevelopment of the Ulster Museum, due to reopen in 2009. She is currently the examiner for the BA and MA Craft Design course at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. In 2003 Kim juried the first ever exhibition of contemporary Irish glass and has curated exhibitions, lectured and written about contemporary glass, both nationally and internationally.

Angela Thwaites

Angela Thwaites is well known as an educator and artist working with glass in the UK. Having studied MA with Professor Libensky in Prague in the early 1980’s, Angela returned to the UK to set up her first studio. She has taken part in many national and international exhibitions and her work features in a broad range of publications and collections. After a 3 year research project at the Royal College of Art, Angela produced a CDRom entitled ‘Mixing with the Best’ containing in depth information on materials and processes for kiln casting glass. Angela is currently building a studio at her new home, and has recently taken up a new appointment at De Monfort University in Leicester.
